Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Staff (List with Photos)
Our senior leadership team

Dr Eleanor Whitfield
Eleanor joined the Hall as Head in 2019, after fifteen years teaching English and leading the senior department of a London prep school. She believes a prep school should be a place where every pupil is known – where curiosity is taken seriously and kindness is expected of everyone.
Outside school she sings with a chamber choir and is slowly working her way round the fells of the Lake District.

James Okafor
James leads science across the school and oversees the curriculum from Year 3 to Year 8. His lessons begin with a question and end with an experiment, and the laboratory is rarely quiet at lunchtime.
He coaches the Under 11 football squad and runs the STEM club on Thursday afternoons.

Priya Sharma
Priya directs music across the school, from the first recorder lessons in the Junior School to the senior choir’s carol service. More than two thirds of pupils learn an instrument, and every one of them performs at least once a term.
A pianist by training, she still plays chamber music whenever the timetable allows.

Tom Bennett
Tom teaches Year 5 and coordinates reading across the Middle School. His classroom is built around books – a reading corner, a weekly class novel and a running list of recommendations the pupils write for one another.
Each summer he leads the Year 6 residential trip to the Peak District.

Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music
Most pupils learn at least one instrument, taught one to one by visiting specialists in the music school’s practice rooms. Strings, brass, woodwind, piano and percussion all feed the school’s ensembles.
- Individual lessons during the school day
- Orchestra, string group and jazz band
- Termly concerts and informal recitals

Fine Art
Fine Art
Drawing from life is at the heart of the art studio. Pupils work at the easel from the youngest years, learning to look closely, mix colour and handle paint, charcoal and pastel with growing confidence.
Each summer the studio becomes a gallery, and every pupil has work on the walls.

Design & Innovation

Design & Innovation
The design studio gives pupils hands-on experience of designing, prototyping and making – from hand tools through to CAD, laser cutting and 3D printing. Projects start from real briefs, and every pupil takes an idea from sketch to finished product.
Curriculum (All Subjects)
Every subject we teach – drawn from the Subjects list.

Mathematics

Mathematics
Mathematics is taught in small groups, so every pupil moves at the pace that stretches them. Lessons balance fluency, reasoning and problem-solving, and weekly clinics offer extra help or extra challenge to anyone who wants it.

English

English
English builds confident readers, writers and speakers. Pupils read widely from a well-stocked library, write for real audiences and perform poetry and plays, and every class has time each week simply to enjoy a good book.

Biology

Biology
Biology starts with curiosity about living things – minibeasts, visiting animals and the school garden – and grows into careful observation, classification and the first experiments of pupils’ own design.

Chemistry

Chemistry
In the laboratory pupils learn to handle apparatus safely, observe closely and explain what they see. Practical work comes first, so the ideas behind reactions, mixtures and materials are met in a beaker before a textbook.

Physics

Physics
Physics turns everyday questions – why things float, fall or light up – into investigations. Pupils plan fair tests, take measurements and build circuits, ramps and rockets on the way to the big ideas of forces and energy.

History

History
History brings the past to life through sources, stories and visits, from Roman Britain to the twentieth century. Pupils learn to weigh evidence, ask good questions and argue a case in writing and in debate.

Geography

Geography
Geography takes pupils outdoors to map, measure and question the world around them, then back into the classroom to explore places, peoples and the planet’s big challenges.

Modern Languages

Modern Languages
Languages are taught from the youngest years. Small groups, songs and role play give pupils the confidence to speak as well as read and write, and a trip abroad puts it all to use.

Art & Design

Art & Design
The art studio is open to every year group for drawing, painting, printmaking and clay. Pupils learn from the artists they study and fill sketchbooks with ideas of their own, exhibited each summer.

Music

Music
Music is part of every pupil’s week – class music, choirs, ensembles and individual lessons on almost any instrument. Concerts, assemblies and services give everyone the chance to perform.
